Introduction

Hello my name is Julie Cloke, I have over 15 years experience in family research. I have traced family lineages back to the 1100's. I have always felt a deep connection to the past. At first I thought that it was just my past ... Years ago I was asked to research a family's genealogy, upon delving into this family's tree, I soon found that it was not just my history it was history in general that enthused me ...

December 2, 2007.

Genealogy research has always been a passion of mine.  I enjoy researching my family history.  I got excited when I found out that my Great Great Grandfather was a farmer, when I found the census record that showed my husbands Great Grandfather was a postmaster.  Researching your family tree can be never ending.  I have researched one of my family names back to the year 1090.  Now I want to find out what their occupations were, where they lived, what property they owned.  Another family name I have researched back to the early 1700’s, I have been able to go and take pictures of their old homes, found the cemeteries where they are buried, have pictures of their head stones, seen historical plagues and trees that were planted in my families honour.  Not only do I enjoy finding out my family information and past but I find just as much (maybe even more) enjoyment when I can give others information about their families.  Every connection that I make with a family name for myself or for someone else’s family tree, I am happy, fulfilled and get chills.

GenWeekly has published several new genealogy articles on its website:

Brick Wall Ancestors: How to Uncover the Past - Tips to help with the inevitable brick wall.

Salvation Army Records - For ancestors who were members of the Salvation Army, there are books and web sites that might be of help in your search.

Tracing a Home Town Local History - Margaret Holland spent years recording the lives of the towns folk in the small Alaskan town where she grew up as a child. This collection is now online and fully searchable.

Valentines, Cupids and Marriage Records - This holiday reminds about marriages and sometimes the fact that I am missing a lot of dates and locations of marriages in my many genealogical databases.
